Gremio fans direct racist gestures at Santos keeper Aranha

Gremio supporters shouted racist taunts at Santos keeper Aranha at Gremio's new stadium Gremio Arena in Porto Alegre.

The Porto Alegre club have issued an apology to Aranha and launched an investigation into the matter. The club statement on Gremio's website is as follows:

“The club's Legal Department, in conjunction with the administrators of the Arena, are taking every measure possible so that the people involved in this episode are identified and so that all materials at our disposal are sent to police in order for them to launch appropriate criminal proceedings.”

Very few people are charged with racism in a Brazil even though it is a criminal offence in the country.

Aranha's Santos went on to win the match 2-0.
