Kenpong Travels Sponsors WAFU Cup

The Kenpong team poses with Kwesi Nyantakyi and other officials

Kenpong Travel and Tours, one of the most recognized travel and tours outfits in Ghana at the moment, has thrown its weight behind the GoTV WAFU tournament, which will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi between November 21 and 28.

Kenpong Travel and Tours is a subsidiary of the Kenpong Group of Companies which is already synonymous with sponsorship of football events like the President's Cup. Furthermore, the president and CEO of the Group, Kennedy Agyepong, is known for showering cash on football-related events and persons, corporate or natural.

At the launch of the sub-regional WAFU tournament in Kumasi during the week, the Kenpong Travel and Tours team was in full effect, with its beautiful ladies being the cynosure of all eyes.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, Director of Finance at Kenpong Group and also in charge of Kenpong Travel and Tours, George Amoako disclosed that his outfit was sponsoring the WAFU competition because of its wider implications for African soccer.

'This tournament would serve as a spring board to most of the players that would feature in it. And we at Kenpong Travels think the only way to show our love for the youth is to give them our backing, because from here (WAFU tournament) some of them would get the opportunity to play for big clubs in Africa, Europe and elsewhere. We are therefore very proud to be associated with the event.'

He noted that the company would also use the WAFU tournament and other upcoming soccer events to project itself for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

'We are making arrangements to take Ghanaians to the World Cup, so that they go, enjoy the global event and come back in relative comfort,' he added.

The GoTV WAFU Cup is reserved for only home-based players of member nations.

Ghana are drawn in Group A with Sierra Leone Benin and Burkina Faso.

In Group B, defending champions Togo are the top seeds and they will face competition from Niger, Senegal and Gabon.

Winners of the two groups will progress to the final while the second placed team in each group will vie for the third position.
