New Stars Coach Soon - It Could Be Goran, Herbert Or... - Randy

Contrary to speculations that all three coaches in line for the Black Stars job failed to impress during the final interview, indications are that one of them could be named as Milovan Rajevac’s successor in the next few days.

But the destiny of Ghana’s Herbert Addo, Serbian and Humberto Coelho of Portugal now rests in the hands of the 22-member Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The Spokesman of the GFA, Randy Abbey, told the Graphic Sports yesterday that the search committee was satisfied with the performance of the three coaches during the recent interview in Accra and would soon send its recommendation to the Executive Committee for their perusal.

He, however, could not stick his neck out as to when exactly a new Stars coach would be named. The FA had earlier promised to appoint a new Stars coach by December 15, 2010.

Reacting to rumours that the three coaches did not live up to the expectation of the search committee, Mr Abbey emphasised that the coaches “did very well”.

He said whether or not one of them would be named as the new Black Stars coach depended on the Executive Committee.

He disclosed that in case the Executive Committee upholds the search committee’s recommendation, the name of the best candidate to have emerged from the interview would then be presented to the Minister of Youth and Sports as a matter of protocol for her endorsement.

Mr Abbey’s comments temporarily rule out any head-hunting as earlier reports pointed to, and also cast doubt over a suspected u-turn by Ghanaian-born ex-French international Marcel Desailly, who withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour.

The process for Serbian Milovan Rajevac’s successor began immediately after his sudden departure to Saudi Arabian club side Al Ahly Jeddah in September last year resulting in a hot race for the vacant job by 106 coaches worldwide.

The GFA then formed an eight-man search committee headed by President Kwesi Nyantakyi a couple of months ago to shortlist five coaches out of the lot, including Desailly and Can Vanli, who was later disqualified.

The Black Stars’ next Africa Nations Cup qualifier is against Congo Brazzaville away in the last weekend of March.
