Gyan defends Ghana's sit back strategy

Ghana's African Nations Cup semi-final hero Asamoah Gyan has defended their decision to sit back and hold onto his first half strike to kick-out rivals Nigeria on Thursday.

Gyan ghosted pass his marker to turn home Kwadwo Asamoah's corner in the 21st minute and sealed a place in the final.

"We deserved that victory," Stade Rennes striker Gyan told Al-Jazeera after the game.

"Logically, we had to defend our lead in the second half, so we naturally adopted a defensive strategy."

The Black Stars will face holders Egypt which thrashed North African rivals Algeria 4-0 in Benguela on Sunday in Luanda.

Ghana last won the continental silverware 28 years ago at the 1982 finals in Libya.
