Kuffour For Kotoko
Samuel Osei Kuffour KOTOKO'S MANAGEMENT is secretly trying to convince former Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour to join the Porcupine Warriors next season.
DAILY GUIDE SPORTS learnt that Sylvester Asare Owusu, the Kotoko CEO held talks with the former Bayern Munich of Germany stopper sometime ago in this regard.
Though the outcome of the talks was not immediately disclosed it was gathered that the Italia 1991 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner would commit his future to Kotoko if he failed to land a lucrative contract abroad.
The stopper has openly vowed on countless occasions to play for Kotoko before he brings the curtains down on his illustrious career.
Kuffour was part of the Bayern Munich side that won the UEFA Champions League in 2001. He also scored the solitary goal when the Bavarians won the World Clubs Championship that same year.
The Ghanaian defender was also part of the Bayern team which lost to Manchester United due to two late goals in the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final. He famously beat the ground in frustration afterwards, a gesture that endeared him to Bayern supporters. He is the youngest defender of all-time to score in the UEFA Champions League at the age of 18 years 61 days, during the match against FC Spartak Moscow on November 2, 1994 which ended in a 2-2 draw. Kuffour made over 60 UEFA Champions League appearances, the most by any African player ever, and is one of the most decorated African players of all time.
After eleven seasons in Munich and 175 Bundesliga appearances, Kuffour left Bayern in the summer of 2005 and signed a 3-year-deal with A.S. Roma in a free transfer, thus returning to Italy. He made 21 appearances in 2005–06, having spent a period of the season away on international duty and, in his second year, was loaned to UEFA Cup competitor and fellow Serie A team Livorno Calcio.
On August 2007, Kuffour had an unsuccessful trial with Premier League side Sunderland, with a view to a permanent move. He has been without a club for sometime, and if the defender agreed to play for Kotoko, the domestic league would definitely be given a boost by his appearances.
