> DOL Board Issues Ultimatum To Clubs
The Division One League (DOL) board of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has asked clubs to submit their venues by November 21, 2008 for inspection.##m:[Read more]##
The move, according to the DOL board, is in line with the fresh law that has raised DOL games into secured arenas to contain potential hooliganism.
The chairman of the DOL board, Mr Kwame Ntow-Fiako, told the Daily Graphic that the new rule would be enforced to the letter, and urged clubs to comply for a smooth run of the league.
Congress of the GFA last week endorsed a proposal by the DOL board with an amendment of the rules that now limits DOL matches to venues with inner perimeter.
The amendment meant clubs whose venues had no inner perimeter would need to erect the facility or look elsewhere for their home games.
Mr Ntow-Fiako said the incidents of the past when supporters and officials were intimidated or assaulted needed to be minimised for the sake of football's competitive spirit.
He said the next season's DOL would begin soon after the inspection of the venues of the clubs, insisting that the delayed declaration of second division champions in six regions had also contributed to the delayed start to the next season.
Indeed, only four regions — Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Eastern and Western — have declared their champions so far.
