SWAG calls on family of bereaved General Secretary

A high-powered delegation of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) on Friday, October 10, visited the bereaved family of the late Richard Avornyotse, General Secretary of the Association, who died early this week after a protracted illness.

The delegation which was led by Ackah Anthony - President of the Association also included Christian Abbew - Vice President, William Ezah - Deputy General Secretary, Emmanuel Amponsah and Executive Member as well as Enoch Antwi, John Vigah and Kwabena Ofori, members of the Association.

The visit was to console with the family of the late Avornyotse who was also known as “Papa Richie” – and assure them of the Association's support in the organisation of the funeral.

Interacting with the family, Ackah said, “We were aware of his ill health but death was the last thing we expected because we were very sure he would recover and join us.

“However as humans we have no control over death and since it is the will of God and though we are saddened we believe God is in firm control”. Ackah stated.

He said that the Association will be in constant touch with the bereaved family in order to take up an active role in the organisation of the funeral.

The President asked the bereaved family not to give up their faith in God during these trying moments but rather be strengthened by the unfortunate incident.

The delegation was received by Mrs Lucy Avornyotse – widow, Francis Avornyotse – son, Florence Attah, Gladys Attah and Bernice Attah all members of the family.

Francis Ayornyotse informed the delegation that funeral and ther final burial service for late General Secretary will be held on Saturday, November 22, at his hometown, Kpando in the Volta Region.
