2023 African Games: Sports Minister praises media for incredible coverage

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has expressed gratitude towards the media for their pivotal role in the successful execution of the 2023 African Games.

This edition of the Games marked a significant milestone as it was the first time they were hosted in Ghana, garnering heightened anticipation across the continent.

The culmination of an enthralling three-week spectacle concluded on Saturday, March 23, with a vibrant closing ceremony held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Minister Ussif emphasized the crucial contribution of both local and international media in delivering an unforgettable experience to global audiences.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, March 25, he conveyed appreciation, stating, "We are also here to thank the media both local and international for the outstanding coverage that you gave to us throughout the journey."

Acknowledging the media's continuous engagement, he added, "Not only during the games, we started this journey together with you. During our difficult times, you critiqued us and gave us suggestions. You shaped us to get what we have achieved today and we cannot leave without thanking you for the good work done."

Ghana celebrated its most successful outing at the African Games, clinching a record-breaking 69 medals.

Leading the medal table were Egypt with 192, followed by Nigeria with 121, and South Africa with 106 medals.

Despite a commendable performance, Team Ghana secured the sixth position overall.
