GHPL: Kotoko leapfrogs Hearts of Oak to go third after beating Dwarfs 1-0

Asante Kotoko has overtaken Hearts of Oak on the Ghana Premier League standings to go third after posting a 1-0 defeat over Ebusua Dwarfs on Wednesday afternoon.

The record league champions went into today’s match sitting two places behind their sworn enemies that had played one game more.

Clearing the outstanding match today, Asante Kotoko put up a good fight to ensure they picked up a positive result.

In the match against Ebusua Dwarfs played at the Cape Coast Stadium, both teams excelled in the first half but could not take advantage of the chances they created.

Resuming the second half, an improved Asante Kotoko performance saw the team enjoy the better of possession en route to beating Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 at the end of the 90 minutes courtesy of a strike from defender Christopher Nettey in the 71st minute.

As a result of the victory, the Porcupine Warriors club has leapfrogged Hearts of Oak to go third on the Ghana Premier League standings and just a point behind leaders Karela United.

A win this weekend against Aduana Stars could potentially see the Reds climb to the summit of the league table should results from other matches go in their favour.
