Lockdown: Government Supplies Food Items To Zongo Communities

A government delegation led by Inner-cities and Zongo Minister, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has presented food items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to Zongo Communities in the country amidst the Covid-19 lockdown Sunday, 5th April 2020.

The items donated include bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of gari, boxes of cooking oil, cartons of sardines, packs of bottled water among others.

The items were presented to the Office the Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Usman Nuhu Sharubutu for onward distribution to Zongo Communities within the lockdown areas in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi.

According to Dr. Mustapha Hamid, the presentation was part of President Akufo-Addo's directive to supply food items to the most vulnerable citizens in communities in light of the lockdown.

“The presentation to the National Chief Imam was a symbolic gesture since he is the head of the Muslim community in Ghana,” he stated.

He added, “we will collaborate with Zongo Chiefs and Imams to ensure that thousands of households in Zongo communities in the lockdown areas (Greater Accra Metro and Greater Kumasi Metro) will receive food packages made up of rice, gari, beans, oil, eggs, and sardine.”

The delegation included the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Hon. Cynthia Morrison, Deputy Minister of Local Government Hon O.B Amoah, Deputy Minister of National Security, Hon. Henry Quartey, Alhaji Wahab Abdul-Hanan Executive Secretary of National Buffer Stock and other government officials.
