Cassava Processing Centre Inaugurated

Fodome-Helu (V/R), May 16, GNA-A Cassava Processing Centre, equipped with machinery for three Women's groups into agro-processing, worth 260 million cedis has been inaugurated at Fodome-Helu in the Hohoe District.

The Centre was constructed by the All-Age Development Centre (ADEC) Ghana, a non-profit making organization under the auspices of GORTA, Ireland, a development non-governmental group.

The groupings are, Dzigbordi Women's group at Fodome-Helu, Work and Happiness Women's group at Fodome-Hloma and Lorlornyo Women's group at Fodome-Ahor, engaged in cassava farming, agro-processing and marketing of their produce.

Mr Patrick Ahumah, Executive Director of ADEC, in a remark urged the women's groups to identify themselves with community development projects in order to sustain it and improve on their living conditions. He said the commitment and the communal spiritedness demonstrated towards such projects could qualify them for more support from donors and appealed to the womenfolk to take absolute care of the equipment. The occasion, which coincided with the familiarization tour of a three-member team from Gorta, led by Dr David Occonnor, was to familiarize with partners and identify other NGOs who would assist them reach out to the underprivileged in the society, to realize economic sufficiency in the scheme of things.

He said the partnership with ADEC, Progressive Youth and Community Development (PROYCOD) and Concern for Humanity and Nature Concern (CHANCE), all NGOs based in Ho and Hohoe, respectively, has been fruitful and was optimistic that the future was bright for consolidating their corporate aspirations.

Dr Occonnor praised ADEC, PROYCOD and CHANCE for the transparent manner in which they discharged their duties and having worked within specifications.
