Military personnel cautioned against unbecoming behaviour

Takoradi, May 12, GNA - some 122 recruits, including 47 women, passed out from Air Force Recruits Training School at Takoradi after 27 months training.

Addressing the passing out parade, Air Vice Marshall Joseph Boateng, Chief of Air Staff who was the reviewing officer, cautioned the recruits against "Unmilitary behaviour" exhibited by some personnel of the Air Force in the past.

He said the behaviour, which caused embarrassment to command of the Force included debt collection, unsolicited police duties, land guards, arbitration in family feuds, chieftaincy disputes, arrest of drug peddlers and illegal gold diggers.

"Be wary of these negative activities that tarnish the image of the Air Force and do not let your whims and caprices prevail over issues that are clearly out of our domain as airmen and women".

Air Vice Marshall Boateng said, "The Air Force Command will not gloss over any act of commission or omission on your part as you will individually be answerable to the Command for your actions and inactions".

He said one area of concern to the Command and government was the provision of better conditions of service. Air Vice Marshall Boateng said in this regard, issues such as improved pay and allowances, accommodation, medical care and other social facilities are receiving critical attention. Five recruits were presented with awards with Cynthia Kpeem emerging as the best overall recruit and best in academics. Eric Amaning was adjudged best in drill, Alice Appiah Twumasi, best in weapon training and Abu Lugubom, best in tactics and field craft.
