Ex-Convict gets five years for stealing sheep

Sogakope, March 23, GNA- Evans Kwaku, alias Kofiga Korku, 30, an ex-convict from Sogakope in the South-Tongu District was last Monday jailed five years by a Circuit Court at Sogakope for stealing a sheep. Kwaku who was arrested on Thursday March 16, this year by market women at Akatsi on suspicion of stealing the sheep, pleaded guilty. The court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah ordered that the ram should be returned to its owner. He also directed that a pistol found on the convict should be destroyed while the Police keep a handcuff also found in his possession at the time of arrest.

Chief Inspector Josephine Agatha Akpoak who prosecuted said Kwaku joined an Akatsi bound vehicle from Sogakope and asked the driver to stop to pick a luggage somewhere during the journey. She said Kwaku emerged from the bush shortly with a sheep. Chief Inspector Akpoak said market women on the vehicle who identified Kwaku as an ex-convict confronted and handed him over to the Akatsi Police who also transferred him to the Sogakope Police for investigations. She said the convict told the Police that the pistol was given to him by a friend to be sold in Lome, Togo and also claimed that he found the handcuff at the banks of the lake at Sogakope. Chief Inspector Akpoak said during investigations the pen from which the sheep was stolen was located at Sokpoe, near Sogakope.
