Djokoto's Diary: Nepotism undermines a social system based on merit.

We are striving to modernise Ghanaian politics by raising the standard of governance, restoring confidence in our democracy and inspiring social cohesion. Nepotism is a needless obstacle to the progress we are working toward; it is detrimental to our national interest. We are moving Ghana forward and that class of backward politics must be left behind.

Here are three reasons why:

  1. Nepotism places privilege above merit and limits opportunities to a select-few. It perverts the ideal of equal opportunity and undermines a social system based on merit.
  2. People should not gain government or government-related positions simply because of family relations or personal relationships.
  3. We must be diverse with public positions and give chances to hardworking people.

The social system is best protected when there is a level playing field for everyone.
