Operators Of Childrens Homes Attend Sensitization Program

The office of the social welfare Department in the Berekum Municipality has organized a sensitization program for staff of orphanages operating in the Berekum East Municipality and the Berekum West District all in the Bono Region.

The purpose of the workshop was to sensitize the residential homes about their rules and regulations and the requirement for operating such facilities.

Mr. Alfred K. Gborglah said it was the duty of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development to educate owners and staff of Children homes to know what is expected of them as far as their operations are concerned.

The Social Welfare Officer highlighted some requirement for operating a Children’s as, registration of everybody in the home, suggestions box, menu book, Visitors book, First Aid box, code of conduct, file for every child in the home among others.

He further stated that residential homes for children in Ghana (RGH) are required to have good environment, clean and potable water, toilet facility, security protection.

According to him, a monitory team will be visiting all facilities to ensure that they operate within the stipulated rules and regulations.

Mr. Jackson Dzirasa, the Environmental Health officer for the Berekum East Municipality who was one of the facilitator’s urged participants to be very careful about the eating habits of the children adding that most of the food in the market now is contaminated.

He also appealed to them to keep the environment of the homes clean to prevent diseases.
