NGO Gives Facelift to Bethel Presby Primary School At Otano

Generations for Peace, Ghana has given a facelift to Bethel Presbyterian JHS at Otano, a surbub of Accra in commemoration of this year's International Volunteers Day in Ghana.

Generations for Peace is an international non-organization (NGOs) based in Jordan which work with and empower youth volunteer leaders in 50 countries across the globe to promote active tolerance and responsible citizenship in communities experiencing various forms of conflict and violence.

Country Director for Youngstars Development Initiative lead pioneer for GFP, Naa Adei Boateng said the exercise was part of activities to commemorate the 2018 international volunteer day which is marked on every 5th December.

According to her, the school has achieved high academic successes every year yet lacked renovation and upgrade of the old dilapidated building.

"We chose to give the Bethel Presbyterian school at Otano a facelift because we at GFP believe strongly that education is building resilient communities across the world", she said.

Naa Adei Boateng added that, the environment school children study in goes a long way to affect their academic performance.

“As volunteers who are dedicated towards service to humanity and cascading the “pass it on” mantra, GFP Ghana decided to serve the community by executing its IVD project of engaging students from the school to paint the whole school” she intimated.

The team interacted and educate the students on the need to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and tolerating one another irrespective of age and grade of class.

The school kids were told about the importance of maintaining a peaceful ambiance and how negotiations or confrontations are good tools for peace and development.

Mrs. Rachia Sadia, the Assistant Head Teacher of the school expressed her gratitude to Generation for Peace, Ghana for giving the school a facelift.

According to her, the school has been battling with alot of challenges since ages regarding the old structure.

“We lack a lot of educational infrastructure like, class rooms block, toilet facilities for both teachers and students, desks, and potable water", she intimated.
