Ceiling At Kumasi City Mall Collapses

Reports from Kumasi in the Ashanti region on Tuesday morning suggested that a part of the ceiling at the Kumasi City Mall caved in.

The ceiling at the section that houses the GAME shop collapsed shortly before the scheduled time for the shop to open.

There were no casualties, Asenso reports.

National Disaster Management Organisation officials (NADMO) were busily clearing the debris from the scene of the incident and the mall has been closed for business temporarily, the reporter told Super Morning Show host, Daniel Dadzie.

The NADMO officials are urging the public not to panic as the situation has been brought under control, the reporter added.

It is the second incident of such an incident has been recorded at a public shopping centre in two months.

In October, a part of the ceiling at Electronic Hub of the at the Accra Mall tumbled, injuring patrons.

Meanwhile, investigations have begun into the cause of the Kumasi incident while the structural integrity of the facility is also being assessed.

The Kumasi City Mall is the first of its kind in the city. The Kumasi City Mall cost $95 million and took 24 months to complete.

The mall is one of the biggest malls in West Africa. The property is owned by Delico Property Limited.
