Salvation Army Embarked On ' WASH' Protect To Boost Personal Hygiene And Sanitation In Schools

The Salvation Army Ghana Territory is constructing modern toilet facilities with mechanized boreholes for some selected schools under its Education Unit, Territorial Commander , Colonel Samuel Amponsah has announced.

According to the Territorial Commander (T. C) the WASH that is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project was being sponsored by The International Headquarters of the Salvation Army in London, the Netherland Government and the Netherlands Salvation Army.

" The WASH project is a 2 year programme (October 2017-September 2019) providing 20 Salvation Army Primary and Basic Schools in the Eastern, Central, Ashanti and Volta Regions.

Beneficial schools would be provided with a 6 Seater WC toilet facility with Girls changing room and a mechanized boreholes.

Ten (10) of the facilities has been completed at Akim Asene, Agona Duakwa, Nyakrom, Kibi Apapam, Ajumako Osedzi, Asokore, Akim Achiase, Akim Asiakwa, Somanya and Peki-Avetime "

Colonel Samuel Amponsah announced this when addressing Chiefs and people of Ajumako Osedzi to commission of the facilities for Osedzi Salvation Army Basic School in the on Friday.

He noted that the objective of the project was to provide clean drinking water attached with modern toilet facility and hand wash buckets to help reduce waterborne diseases.

" These facilities would reduce cholera, dysentery and diarrhoea in our schools and the beneficiary communities.

The WASH project is aligned to Football. This section is being handled by our partner, Beyond The Goal Post (BTGP)

We hope to use football to help promote personal hygiene and environmental sanitation among our pupils as well as Members of the beneficiary communities.

Beyond the Goal Post will provide football pitch with goal post and nets, footballs, 2 set of jerseys for boys and girls a First Aid Box and a coach for each of the beneficiary schools.

I will like to appeal to the Ghana Education Service, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) SMC, School Maintenance Committee members, teachers, pupils as well as stakeholders to endeavour taking regular maintenance of the facilities to ensure sustainability of the expensive facilities "

The Central and Western Regional Manager of the Salvation Army Education Unit, Mr. Bright Ankomah Asare lauded The Salvation Army Ghana Territory especially the Territorial Commander, Colonel Samuel Amponsah for the edifice provided for schools under his Unit.

He assured that intensive monitoring would be carried out to ensure that the facilities last longer than expected.

The Omankrado of Ajumako Osedzi, Nana Saah IX praised the Territorial Commander and his team for what he termed as a Surprise Gift to the community

Present were Colonel Mrs. Hagar Amponsah, Territorial President of the Women Ministry of the Salvation Army Ghana Territory, Major Peter Oduro Amoah, Property Officer of the Ghana Territory, Major Stephen Boadu, Central Divisional commander of the Salvation Army Ghana Territory, Mr. Samuel A. Obeng, Project Manager and Mr. Isaac Amofa, inspector of schools, Salvation Army education unit.
