Kenya: Dusk To Dawn Curfew Along Nakuru -Narok Border

The Kenyan government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in parts of Narok County following fresh skirmishes that broke out on Monday.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mongo Chimwaga announced that Oleposumoru along the Nakuru-Narok border has been placed under curfew in a bid to quell fresh skirmishes that is threatening to get out of hand.

The curfew comes hours after violence broke out amid reports that at least 100 more houses were torched overnight after a botched peace meeting between two feuding communities.

Mr. Chimwaga said the curfew will prevent further death and destruction and help restrict arbitrary movement of people. He cited falsehoods being peddled as increasingly fueling the conflict along the Nakuru -Narok border.

Two more middle aged men who sustained arrow wounds after hours of an intense duel between the two herding communities Tuesday morning are currently admitted at the Olenguruone Sub County hospital.

One person found setting a house on fire has been arrested and is expected to assist police in investigations.

The clashes are said to have been sparked by cattle theft Sunday night and have been worryingly escalating.

The political leadership in the region claim the strife is politically motivated and have called for immediate arrest of perpetrators.

The inter-ethnic strife has already led to five deaths with over 26 people reported to have sustained arrow injuries during the skirmishes.

Separately, tension is also high along the border of Kitui east and Tana River after over 200 camel Somali herders were evicted after killing one local and leaving his wife with serious injuries.

20 police officers have been deployed to the area to restore peace and ensure the invaders leave the area.
