26 students win 2005 Kramer scholarship awards

Aboadze (W/R) Oct.20 - GNA- Twenty-six pupils and students mainly from Shama, Aboadze and Abuesi areas near Takoradi have been awarded scholarships to pursue basic, secondary and tertiary education under this year's Kramer Scholarship Awards of the Takoradi International Company (TICO).

The Kramer Scholarship instituted about four years ago by former General Manager of TICO an energy producing firm has so far spent more than 200 million cedis to support the education of brilliant but needy children from the area where it operates.

Beneficiaries of this year's awards were presented with cheques totalling 70 million cedis at a ceremony at Aboadze, attended by chiefs, assembly members and other opinion leaders from the traditional areas. Ramanathan Balachandar, Plant Manager of TICO in an address said the annual scholarship award is part of the company's corporate social responsibilities to support the people's socio-economic and human resource development.

He said TICO, under the programme had provided schools, water and health facilities to enhance the lives of the people and added that this would continue to complement the government's efforts to make life better for the people.

Mr. Marshall Pendergrass, General Manager of TICO, in an address read for him advised beneficiaries to take full advantage of the scholarship to pursue higher education and acquire knowledge and skills that would help to improve the lives of the people.

The Most Reverend Martin Darko, Catholic Bishop of Sekondi the scholarship awards offer the students the opportunity to improve themselves and their areas.

He said however that, this could be attained only through perseverance discipline and hard work.

Most Rev. Darko advised them to shun bad company because that may destroy their career and future and said they must not forget their traditional areas when they become successful in life. Oct. 20 05
