Pre-harvest Conference Gets Support

Management of Mel Consulting Limited has provided technical and financial support towards the eighth edition of the pre-harvest exhibition and conference slated for October 3 to 5 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

Mrs Lucy Quainoo, the Director of External Relations of International Trade Mel Consulting, at press briefing in Accra on Thursday, said the company was supporting with GH¢100,000.00.

'This year we seek to support more farmers to attend the exhibition and the conference,'' she said.

As part of the operations the company provided technical assistance for the growth and development of the agri-business sub-sector, she said.

She said the company decided to support the conference because most of the farmers and their activities were situated at the north.

Mrs Quainoo said government and its partners were focusing on bringing agribusiness to the north, hence the company's support to the conference.

As part of the technical support the company would train farmers in agronomy to manage their farming activities, she said, and that all the support were geared towards achieving food security and promoting the Ghana beyond Aid agenda.

Ms Alberta Nana Akyea Akosa, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, said the event was expected to see a bigger participation as more famers, farmer groups and businesses in the sector had expressed interest.

She said this year's edition had attracted many inputs from the private sector and international organisations, which would make it an exciting experience.

'We expect a much larger number of participating exhibitors and conference attendees this year, judging from the early signals we are picking up,' she said.

Ms Akosa said: 'Agribusiness is the way to go in poverty reduction and national development. I am elated and grateful to the various institutions that have seen wisdom in this idea and have supported it over the years.'

She called on other organisations to lend their support so as to build a stronger and bigger agribusiness sector. GNA
