“So far, by mid-August, 65 people have died in Bavarian swimming pools and lakes,” says Achim Wiese, the spokesman of the German life-saving society.

The alarm came after 4 pm. The two men had gone down in Pullinger Weiher near Freising, according to a police spokesman: "The two men from Ghana wanted to take a bath in the pond, but help for the two non-swimmers came too late."

Rescue teams of the fire brigade and Water-watch had searched intensively for the two men. A police helicopter with thermal imaging camera was also used. Around 18.15, the divers found the two bodies off the shore on a steep ledge.

The hot temperatures have forced many to go swimming increasing the number of drowning on the beach and the emergencies often go unnoticed, according to Achim Wiese.

"Bavaria has very beautiful lakes - but most of these lakes are unguarded, and when you go swimming there, you often do not even know the lakes.”

"For example, dredging lakes are often very shallow at first, then abruptly very deep and the cases of Sun Drowning are usually quiet," he stressed.

The German police are working with the Ghanaian community and the embassy in Germany to locate the relatives of the deceased for proper arrangements.
