NDC Polls: John Mahama will be discredit if unable to secure 95% victory - Razak Opoku

The Founder and President of Concerned Voters Movement (CVM), Razak Kojo Opoku has opined that former President John Mahama would be discredited by Ghanaians if he fails to secure above 95 percent victory in the upcoming NDC's presidential primaries.

The NDC will go to polls on December 7 2018 to elect its Flagbearer for the 2020 elections. Former President John Mahama who led the party to an abysmal loss in 2016 has been touted as favourite to win.

The NDC's MP for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has predicted an overwhelming victory for former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming NDC presidential primaries.

“I have every confidence that former president John Mahama is going to win this primaries. I can predict very safely that former President Mahama is not going to win by anything less than 85%,” Hon Ablakwa said.

Ahead of the party’s polls, 94 NDC Members of Parliament out of 106 have reportedly endorsed John Dramani Mahama to lead the party in the 2020 elections although the former President hasn’t formally thrown his hat into the race.

According to the leader of the 94 MPs, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandapuye, John Mahama is the only candidate who can lead the party to victory in the next polls.

Mr. John Mahama who is likely to contest the flagbearer slot for the NDC will have to beat competition from former UPSA vice-chancellor Professor Joshua Alabi, Second deputy speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former NHIA boss Sylvester Mensah and his former Trade minister Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah and also Stephen Atubiga and Kweku Ricketts Hagan.

NDC stalwarts such as former Diplomat, James Victor Gbeho and former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah have rallied support for the candidature of Prof. Joshua Alabi to become the flagbearer of the party going into the 2020 elections.

In a statement signed by CVM boss, Razak Opoku and copied to GhanaWeb indicated that the 'Unity Walks', Regional Chairmen and 94 MPs' endorsement would do the magic for Mr. John Mahama.

Razak Opoku who is also NPP activist was on the view that the former President will win the NDC's upcoming presidential primaries but stated that Mr. Mahama would be losing the 2020 general elections.

He also opined that Mr. John Mahama has been running unopposed in NDC internal elections but said today that he is going to face a stiffer opposition within the party, things would be difficult for him.

"Depletion is affecting John Mahama electoral performance, from 99.5% to 95.1% to proposed 85%. Again from 50.7% to 44.4% to proposed 37.1% in 2020", he said.

"2018 Presidential Primaries will be the first time in the history of NDC that John Mahama is facing a stiff competition from prominent gurus of the Party such as Bagbin, Alabi, Spio and Slyvester, the statement emphasized.

The statement however stated, "John Mahama is totally discredited if he is unable to secure above 95% in the NDC's 2018 Presidential Primaries. We hope that the Unity Walk, Regional Chairmen and 94 MP's endorsement will do the magic for John Mahama".
