AEMRI DEAL; Question Nana Addo – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stressed that the President of the Republic, his Exellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo should be questioned on the New AMERI agreement that has gone bad.

According to the vocal Secretary, President Akuffo Addo sacked the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko when the deal came into heavy criticism on how bad it is even though he the President should be held responsible for what happened. He insists the President cannot be excluded from the controversies that surround the proposed new agreement.

“From all indications, the presidency was deeply involved in the agreement and the president himself even approved it, so, he must be questioned,” Johnson Asiedu Nketia said in an interview on Accra FM today.

He also urged Ghanaians to demand answers directly from the president because he was involved in the deal having given Executive approval of the new agreement.

A press release earlier this week from the Presidency indicated that the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has been sacked and Minister for lands and Natural Resources was to act in his place temporarily. His sacking came following the new agreement he negotiated with AMERI energy. In the new deal, the previous agreement with AMERI for five years was extended to fifteen years. Not only that, the old deal which was going to cost the country $510 million shot up to $1.3 Billion in the new agreement.

For Asiedu Nketia, the sacking of the Energy Minister should not just end there. He believes the President should be blamed as well. Therefore the President should be looked into as well as other parties.

“The sacking of Boakye Agyarko should not end the matter, the president must be blamed for this bad deal”, he said.

The NDC General Secretary additionally confirmed that he will be contesting for the position he currently occupies in the upcoming party elections. He believes having already led the Party to two major elections which they won, he can do it again even though they lost the 2016 General Elections.
