Unproven Corruption Claims Against Political Opponents Unfair – Sly Mensah

A leading flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sylvester Mensah, has lamented what he described as a “political campaign of corruption” embarked on by some persons against their opposition leading up to elections.

According to him, persons vying for certain positions often make unproven allegations of corruption against their competitors, subjecting them to media trials

This, he said, is not healthy for the growth and future of Ghana’s democracy.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Personality Profile Programme on Monday morning, Mr. Mensah maintained that in advanced political environments where individuals’ rights and liberties, dignity and integrity are cherished, such claims of corruption are investigated quietly and brought to the public domain only when sufficient evidence of impropriety has been established and charges are preferred.

“Anybody who had headed any organisation in the country, whether as a Minister of State or Chief Executive of a public institution would have taken hundreds of decisions which could easily make one a subject of investigations whether legitimately or otherwise but this should not necessarily warrant placement in the public domain since we are all clear about its near irredeemable effect on reputations. Until a clear case of malfeasance is established lets stop stop destroying futures and denting reputation”

Mr. Mensah, in response to a question, admitted that he has been a subject of a public investigation but insisted that he is not particularly worried about that since no case of impropriety was established about him.

He added that he has been formally exonerated formally but admits that it has created a permanent impression and doubt about him and other victims of such allegations.
