World Vision Opposes Early Child Marriage

­ World Vision Ghana, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) has held a stakeholders' meeting on ending Early Child Marriage at Begoro in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region.

The meeting, which was on the theme, 'End Child Marriage now, it takes us all', sought to mobilise support to end early child marriage within the various communities in the District.

With a power point presentation, the Fanteakwa District Cluster Manager for World Vision Ghana, Mr Christopher Teye, said early child marriage was on the rise in many communities in Ghana than one would have thought.

He further explained that the phenomenon had become a global challenge hence the need for all stakeholders to get involved in tackling the canker in the country.

According to him, the regions with high tolerance for early child marriages were the Northern, Upper West and Upper East regions recording 39.6%, 37.2% and 36.1% respectively.

Mr. Christopher Teye called on traditional authorities, religious bodies and other civil society organizations to use their platforms to sensitise their members and the public on the negative effects of early child marriage on the girl bride and society.
