NGO CNREM & Keta District Association File Lawsuit In Supreme Court Challenging Oil Contract Awarded Oil Companies By GNPC And Government Of Ghana

In what is shaping up to be the first in the history of Ghana, an NGO, the Center For Natural Resource and Environmental Management (CNREM) and the Keta District Vegetable Farmers and Marketers Association (KDVFMA) have jointly filed a lawsuit.

The suit is against 2 companies: Swiss African Oil Company (Swaoco) and Pet Volta Investments Limited.

In addition, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Attorney General of Ghana are defendants in the case. The case was filed in the Supreme Court of Ghana 2 Feb 2018, at 2:35PM in Accra, Ghana.

The lawsuit is challenging the legality of the oil exploration and production contract awarded the two companies by the Gov. of Ghana in the UN-protected KETA RAMSAR WETLANDS, its lagoons and waters, claiming the contract was awarded without proper authority (Get copy of CNREM-KDVFMA Keta RAMSAR Lawsuit-vs SWISS OIL & PET Volta, Supreme Court, J1-6-2018).
