More people rendered homeless in Mpatuom after heavy rainfall

About fifty people at Mpatuom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region have been rendered homeless when roofs of their houses were ripped off during a heavy rainfall in the evening of Thursday, March 2, 2018.

The rain, which lasted for more than four hours, also ripped off the roofs of Mpatuom D/A Primary and JHS, a church, market stalls and destroyed electricity poles.

Narrating the incident to Otec News, Kwaku Anane Jnr., the Unit Committee chairman for the area, Joseph Andoh, said business activities in the community has come to a standstill and the schools have also been closed down.

“No casualty was recorded but the residents are yet to come into terms the level of havoc caused by the rain to their properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis,” he said.

“Officials of National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) are assessing the level of destruction and affected families are putting up with other people for the mean time and they (NADMO) has promised to help the affected people as soon as possible,” he added.
