Minister Attacks Former Education Minister Saying...She Was An Embarrassment

Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh says his predecessor, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang was an embarrassment after racking up staggering debts that left basic schools without basic supplies like chalk.

Reading from the official handing over notes, the fiery Minister expressed disappointment over how the Education Ministry procured services without making any allocations to pay for the service.

Yellow buses distributed to Senior High Schools left an $18m debt while $17m for textbooks for schools hanged on the Ministry, he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

He referred to an incident in a Basic School where the Second Lady castigated a headmistress for asking her for chalk after she presented some computers to the school.

The Education Minister said his predecessor left behind a debt of ten (10) million ceids for the supply of chalk, while feeding grants for special schools like School for the Deaf struggled to feed students as four million cedis debt was left at the Education Ministry.

There was a 33 million cedi debt for the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Progressively Free Education while the GETFUND was run aground with a 3.7billion debt.

Napo as he is popularly called, expressed shock that Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang could sign a Bill stating that the University of Environment and Sustainable Development shall be established at Somanya and have its first campus at Donkorkrom.

The distance between the two places is 375km.
"A whole Professor, how can you sign this if you are not part of a 419 government?"

'Napo' could not fathom why someone who is a former UCC Vice-Chancellor could superintendent over such incompetence.
