AMA donates to National Chief Imam

Accra, June 23, GNA - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) today donated food items and an undisclosed amount of money to the National Chief Imam, Sheik Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu at his residence at New Fadama in Accra.

The items were bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil and mineral water for the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr which would be climaxed on Monday, June 26 with prayers at the Black Star Square.

Making the presentation, Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the beauty of Islam is the core belief to extend support to the needy in the society.

He said: 'We are fully aware that the eminent National Chief Imam as a leader has a lot of people to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr with and in the Islamic tradition one does not celebrate by himself or with his family but with the ummar (community).

'Having believed in this exercise we thought it wise that as city authorities we contribute our quota to ensure that the annual feast is extended to the needy in society for more blessings from Allah and to make it joyous and peaceful', Mr Sowah said.

He said this would lead the nation and for that matter Accra to experience more development and successful 'smart city' which many were yearning for.

The Chief Executive who was accompanied by some assembly members and some staff of the AMA expressed gratitude to the Chief Imam for leading and guarding the Muslims through a peaceful and successful Ramadan.

Sheik Sharubutu thanked the AMA for the gesture and offered prayers to the nation.
