Prof Goski Alabi urges graduands to uphold ethical values

Accra, June 21, GNA - Professionalism and ethical values must be exhibited by practitioners, if the profession is to maintain its principles and objectives, Professor Goski Alabi, Dean, Centre for International Education and Collaboration, University of Professional Studies (UPSA) has said.

She said professionals must understand that professionalism comes with codes of ethics, and as such, in their quest to contribute their quota towards national development, it was vital that they uphold the ethical values such as integrity, self-respect and service.

Prof Alabi made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the 2017 edition of the Graduate Practitioner's Dinner in Accra, which was hosted by the School of Graduate Studies, UPSA.

She described the event as one of unique things about their graduate programmes; adding that the programme was designed to ensure that they do not only groom students to have the theory- knowledge in the form of certificates.

She noted that the initiative would also help groom their hearts and minds, particularly professional etiquette; stating that 'it is compulsory that before one leaves the walls of the UPSA, one would have undergone an examinable but practical hands on training in professional etiquette.

She said most importantly they should remember that they need to improve themselves and urged the graduands to constantly improve on their professional attainment; as far as they could.

Ms Abigail Nyamekye Ntim-Owusu, the Event Organising Committee Chairman, told the Ghana News Agency that the dinner was the climax of a forum, which was hosted by Prof Alabi.

She said the objective of the event was to highlight professional ethics, to enable graduands demonstrate their professionalism not only through the academic certificates, but by attitudes and behaviour in the world of work.

She noted that the practical aspect included dressing, greetings, exchange of cards, self-introduction, how to behave at dinners and parties and table manners.
