No Blood At Holy Family In Berekum

There is a severe shortage of blood at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital, according to information gathered by DAILY GUIDE.

Patients who need blood, especially pregnant women who go there to deliver their babies but suffer from blood loss (post-partum haemorrhage), cannot have blood unless they are rushed to the St Mary Hospital at Drobo or Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital at Sunyani to get blood.

The hospital's administrator, Reena John, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on phone, confirmed the story, reiterating that there is acute shortage of blood at the hospital's blood bank, especially the negative ones.

She said a woman in labour from Dormaa Ahenkro last week suffered from post-partum haemorrhage because there was no blood at the blood bank. Madam Rena added that the woman had to seek for blood from other hospitals before she was resuscitated, describing the situation as severe.

She said pregnant women who suffer from anaemia also need blood transfusion from the hospital blood, “bank but because there is no blood at the bank, the hospital becomes helpless”.

She appealed to individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the hospital to save the lives of many pregnant women who come there to deliver.
