Fred Agbenyo Must Show Ghanaians Some Respect

Fred Agbenyo

I have absolutely no doubt that President Akufo-Addo and his crackerjack team of technocrats are having quite a difficult time managing the fraught minefield that is the post-Mahama national economy. But, of course, this is not because Team Akufo-Addo either lacks the requisite expertise or adequate appreciation of the apocalyptic extent of the damage done to our national economy by the Mahama-led thuggish National Democratic Congress’ regime that occupied the Flagstaff House for the past four-and-half years, the previous three-and-half years of which President John Evans Atta-Mills, late, scandalously fiddled with the “ecominy” and criminally permitted Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome to pull off the single-largest heist against our national treasury since 1957.

We must also fully appreciate the fact that had the Mahama Posse won Election 2016, the GH₵ 15 million that EOCO successfully ordered Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, the former President’s half-brother to return to our national coffers would not have materialized. In sum, Ghanaians would have been cheated out of the humongous sum – no pun intended, by the way – of some GH₵ 70 million and still counting.

This is what the unconscionably cynical likes of Mr. Fred Agbenyo, the Deputy Communications Director of the main opposition National Democratic Congress, ought to be talking about on the media talking-heads programs, and not their falsely conceived and wickedly concocted allegation of President Akufo-Addo and his team of pleasantly mature and auspiciously knowledgeable cabinet appointees’ having supposedly mismanaged an economy which, by the way, had been comatose and was already on life-support and near-irreparable by January 7, 2017, when the present government was sworn into office.

Indeed, in barely 5 months, the Akufo-Addo Administration has done far more to arrest the runaway “Galamsification” of the Ghanaian economy than President Mahama and his reprobate team of robber-barons pretended to have achieved by way of national development in four years. Actually, four-and-half years, when one adds the nearly six months following the “mysterious” death of President Atta-Mills, when Mr. Mahama served as Transitional or interim President of Ghana. Indeed, it is only overweening pride, in Shakespearean parlance, and insufferable arrogance, that would make cynics like Mr. Agbenyo think and believe that NDC kleptocrats like himself and the Mahama Posse are, somehow, entitled to ruling our nation in perpetuity.

It is also insufferably insulting to the decency and common sense of the average Ghanaian voter to suppose that we would so soon and masochistically allow the most unconscionable gang of thieves back into our lives for business as usual at the Flagstaff House, come January 7, 2021. Of course, I really do not give a damn whether the NDC hustlers decide to field a monkey or even a chimpanzee as their Presidential Candidate for Election 2020. Nevertheless, it is rather outrageous and criminal for Mr. Mahama to either entertain or flirt with the patently crazy idea that, somehow, Ghanaians are too daft to studiously look towards their own best interests to think of having the Bole robber-baron return to the Flagstaff House to finish his unfinished business of wantonly fleecing our national coffers with his clansmen and cronies. God forbid!

Indeed, it is about time President Akufo-Addo established a commission of enquiry to probe the much-rumored investigation allegedly launched by the late President Atta-Mills into the missing money that then-Vice President Mahama is alleged to have failed to account for vis-à-vis the purchase of some aircraft from Brazil. We simply cannot have criminally unconscionable robber-barons thinking and believing that, somehow, they have an inalienable right to cream our national coffers and lord over us in perpetuity. The time for real accountability is now or never! The heck with vacuous cries of witch-hunting! Let’s have justice by hunting down the depraved and pathologically degenerate who would not allow hardworking and decent Ghanaian citizens to have our peace of mind. Let us “slam” them where they belong and clean up their horrid mess and prepare a better nation for our children and grandchildren!
