'Amatsi' App adjudged overall in MTN App Challenge
Accra, March 22, GNA - MTN Ghana has adjudged Joseph Morny Edem, Prince Mensah, and Adinan Alhassan's app 'Amatsi', as the overall winners of the MTN APPS Challenge version 4.0 Competition in Accra.
The group, which won in the Business Freelance app category, received GH¢20,000.00 cash via MTN Mobile Money, certificate of participation and a plaque.
The competition was to encourage local apps developers to create applications that are locally relevant to MTN's subscribers.
The group also came up as the gold winners for that same Business Freelance category.
They took GH¢20,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei Media Pad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque for being the golden winners.
In the education category, the gold prize went to Isaac Sesi, Abdul Latif-Amadu, and Peter O'Hara Adu for their app 'Pasco', which earned them GH¢20,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.
In the Game and Entertainment Freelance category, Aaron Sanyuo, who developed the app 'Counters Ball Pro' took home GH¢20,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.
For the awards in the Animation Freelance category, Toby Svanekiser, Nii Ofei-Kyei Dodoo, and Sarpei Kwadey with their app 'the bird and kite' won GHc15,000.00 cash via mobile money, a certificate, and a plaque.
In the Animation Tertiary category, Drah Michael, a student from KNUST won with his app 'Monuments', took home GHC10,000 via mobile money, 10 laptops from IPMC to the University and a Plaque.
In the Lifeclass Freelance category Bubunyo Nyavor and Kofi Hayford came top with their app 'AF Radio' and took home GHC15,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.
Other award winners in the tertiary mobile app category are Norris Boateng Aboagy, Samuel Raymond Davies, Foster Awintiti Akugri, all students from the KNUST walked away with GHc10,000.00 cash via mobile money, certificate, 10 laptops from IPMC for the University and a plaque.
Meanwhile, the Freelance Internet of Thing (IOT) category went to Jephthah Adotey Kpakpo for his app 'smarter gas'. He took home GHc15,000.00 cash via mobile money, Huawei MediaPad 11 10 device, a certificate, and a plaque.
In the Senior High School (SHS) category, Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon emerged winners with their 'red button' app and received GHc3,000.00 cash via mobile money, five Desktop computers from IPMC, a certificate and a plaque.
Keta SHS walked away with GHC1,500.00 cash via mobile money, five Desktop computers from IPMC, and a certificate for their app 'school profile'.
Accra Academy SHS came third with their app 'Sunu the jumper' and received GHc1,000.00 cash via mobile money, five Desktop computers from IPMC, and a certificate.
Mr Asher Khan, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, said individuals and organisations involved in project development were contributing immensely to the growth of their local economics.
He said now technology impacted all aspects of human lives.
He said the competition formed part of the company's aim to grow the application developer community in Africa and increase local content across its footprint.
Dr Osei K. Darkwa, the President of the Ghana Technology University College, advised app developers to take advantage of growing demand for apps to develop apps to solve the challenges of the country.
