Chief goes into exile …following attack on his palace by thugs

 From Sebastian R. Freiku, Kumasi
Nana Akwasi Boateng IV, alias Nana Akwasi Buor, Chief of Datano in the Amansie West District, has gone into exile following an attack on his palace since December 12, 2016.

Nana Boateng, who was returning to Datano after a swearing in ceremony at Manso Nkwanta, could not enter his palace, as a group of people, believed to be the supporters of a rival chief, attacked his entourage.

Nana Boateng, who doubles as Benkumhene of the Manso Nkwanta Traditional Area, succeeds Nana Kwadwo Boateng III, alias Mr. Kwadwo Nimo, who died in February 2016.

The woes of Nana Boateng come from an installation earlier in April 2016 of Nana Adjei, alias Kwadwo Francis, at the instance of Otumfuo's Akwamuhene, Baffour Kwame Akowuah III, Overlord of Manso Akwamu, and Chief of Asafo in Kumasi.

Nana Boateng claims he has lost GH¢85,000 and some gold ornaments stolen by the thugs during the attack on his palace, which was later set ablaze.

Baffour Kwame Akowuah III and Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah claim that Datano owes allegiance to them, and, therefore, have the right to install a chief there.

The Omanhene of Manso Nkwanta Traditional Area, Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, has condemned the attack on his sub-chief and intimidation of followers of Nana Boateng.

He has, since December 16, last year petitioned the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to intervene to avoid further bloody clashes and restore security. According to the Omanhene, REGSEC's intervention would also help protect lives and properties, and ensure that sanity, peace, respect, law and order prevail in the community.
