AfDB funds school's infrastructure development

Kumasi, Sept 30, GNA - The African Development Bank (AfDB) is funding the construction of a number of structures at the College of Technology Education of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), in Kumasi, to create more space for effective academic work.

These include laboratories, workshops and lecture theatres together with other teaching and learning resources.

The projects are part of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (COTVET) initiative to promote competency-based training and technical vocational education and training (TVET) in Ghana.

Professor Mawutor Avoke, Vice Chancellor of UEW, broke the news at the matriculation ceremony held for 4,293 fresh students in Kumasi.

They are made up of 2,866 males and 1,427 females and would be pursuing various programmes at the under graduate level.

The ceremony was also used to admit another 118 students to undertake various graduate programmes.

Prof Avoke said the projects when completed, would turn the College into the largest centre for competency-based training and TVET in the West Africa sub-region.

He asked the fresh students to take advantage of the conducive environment provided by the university to live their dreams.

They should make judicious use of their time and desist from social vices like alcoholism, occultism and drug abuse, which could ruin their future.
