Youth cautioned against reckless motor riding during campaigns

Bolgatanga Sept. 15, GNA - The Bolgatanga Traditional Council has expressed worry about the rising recklessness amongst motor riders in the area when political party leaders visit the region to campaign.

Naba Johnson Awini Azebire, Paramount Chief of the Yorogo Traditional Area and Acting President of the Bolgatanga Traditional Council, said the situation was alarming and called on the youth to restrain from such acts.

He urged party leaders to advise their supporters to desist from such carelessness, saying opinion leaders in the area would also take up the challenge to educate the youth in their various communities.

Naba Azebire was speaking at a brief ceremony to welcome the Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur who is on a two-day campaign tour of the Region.

The chief also used the opportunity to thank government for the ongoing construction work on the Bolgatanga-Bawku and Bolgatanga-Bongo roads.

He expressed the hope that the roads when completed will facilitate economic activities between the two towns and the regional capital.

He said it is the hope of the traditional council that the Sumbrungu Airport project would be undertaken to help facilitate hospital referrals and ease the problem of travelling from the area.

The Vice President said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a peaceful party and would ensure that the elections were conducted peacefully.

He said as part of the party's quest for a peaceful election, it had inaugurated a campaign taskforce to ensure that the elections were conducted peacefully.

He asked the people of the region to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama and the parliamentary candidates and thanked the traditional council for maintaining peace in the area.
