I’m ready for any probe into flogging of ‘fornicators’ – Obinim

The embattled founder of the International God's way church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has dared the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, to go ahead and drag him to the Police for publicly flogging two of his teenage church members for fornicating.

The media aide for Bishop Obinim, Joseph Oppong Brenya, said this in an interview with Citi News.

“We will hear them on radio, Amnesty International and others saying they are taking him on, but at the end of the day nothing happens so if they really mean it and they want to take any action, they should stop the radio battle and come to him for any invitation or for any discussion to be held.”

Mr. Brenya however said if Bishop Obinim is eventually invited by the police, the preacher would be fully cooperative.

“If they think they have every reason to invite him, he is a law abiding citizen of this country. He will avail himself for any questioning or any investigation.”

Background
The controversial preacher's conduct made headlines after a video went viral on social media showing the whipping which took place before his congregation, and aired on live TV.

The Bishop defended his actions saying he was only disciplining the two, a boy aged 16 and a girl aged 14, out of love, as the Bible commands.

Responding to critics, Bishop Obinim also described some Ghanaians as  hypocrites   for judging him saying some of them would have done same and even more.

His media aide also said Obinim’s public flogging of the children he takes care of, was the justified action of an angry father as any other father would have done same under similar circumstances.

Obinim reported to DOVVSU
Nonetheless, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has  filed a complaint against bishop Obinim, at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

A statement from the Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, said that the Ministry “has reported Pastor Obinim of the International Godsway Church to the Accra Regional DOVVSU Office for investigation.”

The police has also told Citi News they are  looking into the matter  which, if confirmed, constituted a breach of the victims' rights.
