APC members acclaims Hassan Ayariga as flagbearer

The first national delegates’ congress of the All People's Party (APC) today acclaimed Hassan Ayariga as the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 general election at the International Conference Centre in Accra.

Mr. Ayariga was also confirmed as the APC’s founder and national chairman ahead of the polls.

Furthermore, the congress affirmed the party's national executives for the next four years.

About 500 delegates and scores of non-party members are attending the congress.

The Convention People's Party (CPP), the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Independent Presidential Candidate for the 2012 general election, Joseph Osei Yeboah, were at the congress in solidarity with APC.

Some individuals at the congress claim they were just given party T-shirt to show up as APC delegates with no idea about the party.

A lot of children also thronged the conference center to witness proceedings.

Hassan Ayariga who led the People's National Convention (PNC) in the 2012 elections formed the APC after he failed to clinch the flagbearership slot for the party for the 2016 polls.

He lost the slot to veteran and former flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama who had previously contested for the presidency on four different occasions in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.
