Accept Everything As It Is

Accept everything as it is. Accept your thoughts, feelings and anyone or anything around you. Accepting whatever is, is all you need to do. Even if it is something you hate. Accept it wholeheartedly. Resist none.~ Gin Ng Khin Wee

DEAR friend, we live in a turbulent world. We experience good and bad things on a daily basis.

There are times things happen and we feel deeply troubled, devastated, helpless and frustrated. It could be a missed opportunity, death of a loved one, divorce, bankruptcy, loss of job, broken relationships, and loss of property among many others.

These things happen when we are caught unprepared. In most cases we have no control over these unfortunate events.

As a very wise man noted, there are two ways out of a problem: “Accept what is happening, see the positive and choose a peaceful state of mind or fight against it, be miserable and struggle against the universe.”

I personally think when things happen over which we have no control, acceptance is the way forward. When you achieve this state of consciousness, it will position you take better and wiser decisions.

Here is an illustration to drive home the point. Suppose you write an examination and fail, what do you do?

If you beat yourself up, curse the stars and blame the witches, will it change the situation? Such a poor attitude will only deepen your woes.

When you look at a problem with a negative mindset, it will disempower and paralyze you into inactivity.

A better approach will be to have a positive mindset that after this unfortunate event, good things will follow. It is said that failure is a setback for a comeback.

You need to appreciate the fact that in life, things go wrong quite often. No matter the precautions you take, mistakes can occur. Know that you are human and that you can make mistakes.

Accept such situations wholeheartedly and this can take away pain and sorrow from your life. If you resist that which you have no control over, you will attract more of such situations which will bring you more sorrow and pains.

In the example cited above, the student should not brood and fret over the problem. What he needs to do is cultivate self –confidence and revise his study plan.

He will need well trained and experienced teachers to give him tuition. He will need the prescribed textbooks that are relevant to his course of study. He will also have to discipline himself, be committed and be diligent in his studies. In a word, he has to be serious with his studies. Imbibing these qualities will enhance his chances of success in the long-term.

This approach is far more effective than negative reaction which arises out of anger, despair or frustration.

There is power in acceptance; it is the key to accelerate the speed of getting out of a problem fast than resisting and worsening your plight.

When faced with an unpleasant situation, do not react negatively. Instead, change the way you look at the problem, have a mental shift, and expect a positive outcome. Take bold measures to overcome the obstacles and reach your goals. Ignore all negative voices, believe in yourself, have confidence in your abilities and be optimistic that your efforts will yield the desired results.

Here is a quote from Arthur Rubinstein to conclude my thoughts: “There is no formula for success except, perhaps, an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.”

Until I come your way next week cheers and have a magnificent weekend.
