Soldiers who tortured teenager won't be sacked despite being found guilty

The Ghana Armed Forces says it won’t sack two soldiers who tortured a teenager they accused of stealing a mobile phone even though they have been found guilty.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Oje Sampson, who commissioned an internal probe into the harrowing incident told Joy News Friday, he is open to reducing the ranks of the two military men.

Ghanaians expressed outrage through mainstream media and social media after it was established that the soldiers tortured an errand boy for at least five hours.

They had accused him of stealing a mobile phone and brutalized him until he fell unconscious. He also suffered internal organ damages and was rushed to the hospital.
