African Journalists deliberate future of media in Africa

Cairo, May 6, GNA - Forty-six Journalists from Africa are attending a workshop in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, on the 'Future of Media in Africa.

The journalists drawn from 22 countries include Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo and Liberia.

They would treat topics on: 'Tourist Marketing- Broadcaster as a Tool of Building Intellectual Image of Countries and Nations', 'Four Generation Wars', 'Media and Terrorism Struggle' and 'The Importance of Cooperation and Coordination between African Countries', among others.

The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development in Cooperation with the Radio and Television Union, Egypt, are the organisers of the workshop, aimed at strengthening the cooperation between Egypt and other African Countries.

Addressing the Journalists at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ibrahim Eliraky, First Deputy Secretary General and Supervisor of Africa Media Training Centre, said the media played an important and influential role in shaping public opinion.

Therefore, he said, journalists needed skills to help provide correct information otherwise their inadequate capacities would not augur well for society.

Mr. Eliraky tasked the participants to report issues from the African perspective as the continent was going through the digital information era, which demanded the application of appropriate skills and handling to tell stories correctly.

He said Egypt had become a representative of Africa at the United Nations Security Council and it was playing an influential role in Africa's affairs.
