'NO' Votes May Be Due To ‘Dumsor’ - Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho says the party will be embarking on a wild goose chase if they decide to investigate why people voted ‘No’ against President Mahama.

According to him, the voting was by secret ballot thus it will be difficult for the party to identify the people who deliberately voted against the President's candidature.

Out of the over two million party members expected to cast their votes, 61,836 voted ‘No’ representing 4.90% in relation to President Mahama's candidature in 265 out of 275 constituencies.

According to the EC, the total valid votes in the presidential poll was 1,260,954 and total rejected ballots were 25,774, representing 2 percent of total votes cast.

But some critics say the 61,836 'No' ballots representing 4.9 percent of total votes cast against the President is embarrassing.

Some executives of the NDC are calling for sanction against executives in constituencies which recorded the highest No votes against President Mahama

However, Koku Anyidoho in an interview with Adom News said no one would be sanctioned by the party.

In his opinion, nothing can be done about someone expressing a dissenting view in a democratic party like the NDC.

The NDC man said it could be that those who voted no were angry at the erratic power supply in the country popularly known as dumsor.

'It is impossible to identify those who voted no because it is a secret ballot so why go chasing after phantom existences' he added.

Koku Anyidoho said the call for investigations into the matter is 'ridiculous; it has happened, lets accept the results and move on'.
