Workers call for unconditional recall of five journalists

Accra, Sept 14, GNA - Workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) on Tuesday resolved that the five "interdicted" journalists of the Corporation should be unconditionally reinstated. The workers also demanded the removal of the Director General of GBC, Miss Eva Lokko from office and the dissolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation.

A release signed by Mr Louis Darko Divisional, Vice Chairman of the GBC Union of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) and Mr Stephen Adovor of the Accra Local Union of the PSWU after a meeting with about 200 workers of the local union attended at the GBC, the workers said, "if by the close of work on Thursday, September 16, this year if no action is taken the staff will advise themselves". The five affected journalists are, Mr Emmanuel Vorgbe, Editor-in-Chief, Mr Francis Sasu, Assistant Chief Editor, Nana Yaw Duodu, Assistant Editor, Mr Solomon Ayia, Journalist on Contract and Mr Charles Bucknor, Director of Television.

They were allegedly interdicted over a news story they put out in a Ghana Television News Bulletin on the Ghana Airways saga originally established on the internet and attributed to the Pan African News Agency on August 28. The Management and the Board of Directors of GBC on Wednesday, September 8 recalled four out of the five "interdicted" and asked Mr Bucknor to be on leave, while the rest were to be re-assigned.
