Some Jokes Are Expensive!

I have decided not to talk about comedy in Ghana since the area has become an avenue of sensitization and shrouded with privy. But for the love of God and country, I would boldly pour out my heart mincing no word.

I don't follow comedy too well but the likes of David Oscar, D.K.B, David Aglah, Foster, Khemical and Ajeezay I've come to learn. After the extinction of Concert Party, when all the comedians have run to Kumawood, many thought that was the end of stand-up but for the efforts of the above mentioned; stand-up comedy is still thrilling if not all over the country, a few places.

Ajeezay "the only comedian with six packs under my armpit", I doubt, if they are not boils. The "Chredeeeeeeer" man won my heart some where last year with his funny poses in photos, jokes, footages and recorded tracks. I would describe him as the most versatile and creative comedian in Ghana though I haven't met him yet in person. Ajeezay is capable of contorting his face to suite any mood. He's indeed a maestro in the comedy world but his recent exposure of the lyrics of his Bisa Kdei_Baba refixed as Give it to Apor is a stab to my heart.

willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won't be able to do this" Willie Mays cries. I believe this is not too difficult to fathom? Let me proceed!

I've listened to his Pastor's Translation, Sarkodie ft Castro_Adonai refixed asLetter-to-Ecg amongst others but that of the Give-it-to-Apor always raises questions in mind and I ask myself; Is this guy alright?

"Apor" we all know is an illicit means of cheating in examinations, therefore, broadcasting lyrics citing candidates to cheat in examination is very abysmal to say the least. No wonder five papers have being cancelled in the impending Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) all because of Apor. Art in a sense is intended to educate,inform and entertain but modern day artistes have only resorted the latter and left the two former blurred. Music is one of the greatest tool for human mind control, hence, if not composed for positive reasons can be very devastating. In this new age where technology helps us carry information across the globe have also facilitated spread of such hokum like this; leaving future of a large number of youths deprived. Art plays a very major role in the human society, hence must be accorded the needed professionality.

Between 2009 to 2011 there has being a massive shoot-up in the level of examination malpractices. In 2010 alone, a number of 1,083 B.E.C.E candidates were involved in all forms of examination malpractices. In 2011 the figure went up to 1,127 forming 4.06% more of what was recored in the previous year. As parts of effort to limit the rate WAEC restructured some rules in 2013 to that effect. "The document also identified some common irregularities it abhors namely; collusion, impersonation, leakage or mass cheating" a GNA source stated. Healthy examination practices is not only the duty of the examination council to impose. It is for the general public to help avoid such anomalies to which musicians, actors and comedians are no exceptions! So why not do songs or even create jokes that would mock, rebuke and teach candidates having such mischevious conceptions but rather citing them to cheat?

Ajeezay, you have corrupted the core-moral values of our educational standards. You have gone too far! Bitten the wrong meat! You have risked the lives of B.E.C.E candidates in the name of comedy. Many would wonder why I'm setting the blame on his head. The holy scripture tells us in Proverbs 26:17-19 that; "He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and

death is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I am only joking!" Such is Ajeezay, he has taken the strife for himself; so students inability to pass and that matter going after Apor should all be attributed to him, since he has fueled the illegal practice by his open citation for candidates to seek for it.
