MTN Ghana Foundation Enhances Teaching Of English, Science And Mathematics

Accra, June 1, 2015 - MTN Ghana Foundation today announced the launch of its Teachers’ Improvement Awards Programme. The Teachers’ Improvement Awards Programme is designed to assist Ghanaian teachers in first and second cycle public institutions who seek to further their education in Science, Mathematics or English. Award beneficiaries may pursue a first or Masters level degree at the University of Cape Coast orUniversity of Education, Winneba.

Commenting on the program, the Executive Director of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Cynthia Lumor, outlined the criteria for selection of applicants as follows:

Mrs. Lumor further confirmed that the MTN Ghana Foundation was committing a total award of GHC 125,000 per annum to sponsor 20 teachers every year.

“It is the firm belief of the MTN Ghana Foundation that beneficiaries of the Teachers’ Improvement Award programme willcome back equipped with higher educational skills to enhance skills and methods of teaching”, she said.

The Acting Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Stephen Adu, commended MTN for their support to the education sector. He said, increasingly,Science and Mathematics development is being linked to economic growth and the initiative by the MTN Ghana Foundation will in the long run contribute significantly to the development of the country.

Present at the launch was Mrs. Nabila Williams, Educationist, Project panel member andrepresentative of the MTN Ghana Foundation Board, Mr. Damanya, Acting General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Ms. Rebecca Ocran from the Gender Desk of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).

Submission of applications is opened till the 25th June, 2015. Interested applicants should submit their completed form at any MTN Office before or on due date.
