Performance review meeting of KATH opens in Kumasi

Kumasi, Aug 18, GNA - Admissions at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi between January and June this year increased to 21,528 with 1,860 deaths while reported cases at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and the Polyclinic were 75,460.

The management of KATH had projected that admissions at the end of the year would be 40,000 and reported cases at the OPD, 400,000. Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of KATH, announced this at the opening of a two-day mid-year Performance Review Meeting of KATH in Kumasi, on Wednesday.

The meeting being attended by over 80 Directors and staff of the hospital is aimed at reviewing performances and to adopt effective and efficient strategies to improve performance.

He said with the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), a lot of responsibility rested on them since the workload was expected to increase three times.

Dr Nsiah-Asare noted that with the status of the hospital, cases were expected to come from the Brong-Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.

He also said the management had put in place a number of mechanisms and control systems to improve the revenue base of the hospital.

The Chief Executive mentioned the training of the accounting staff and revenue officers, computerisation of the system and networking with various organisations to improve services.

Dr Nsiah-Asare described the performance of the hospital as improving and encouraging and urged the staff to strive to improve the quality health care.

He announced plans to renovate the polyclinic, complete construction of the maternity and children's block and to open a new Health Insurance Scheme Secretariat at the hospital.
