Alavanyo and Nkonya chiefs apologise to Prez Mahama

The Paramount Chiefs of Alavanyo and Nkonya have apologised to the President John Mahama for disappointing him and failing to keep their promise to him to keep the peace there.

According to the chiefs; represented by the Ankobeahene of the Nkonya traditional area, Nanai Ampem Dankoh III, who presented the apology letter to the regional minister, they are very much aware of the implications of the protracted conflict for development in the area. He said the chiefs have, therefore, resolved to unite as one people.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Msgr. Anthony Kofi Anani Kornu commended the efforts of the Chiefs of Nkonya and Alavanyo in bringing peace to the area.

The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, said the current curfew was to protect the residents of both Alavanyo and Nkonya but not to punish them. She also assured them that the curfew hours which currently begins at 4pm, will be reviewed to start at 6pm.

She admonished the leaders and people of the two areas to keep the peace, saying, “this should be the last meeting where we talk about a conflict situation in Nkonya and Alavanyo.“
