I'd Go For My Old Chair...I Cannot Afford To Fall Off My Seat – MP Cries

A Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam has threatened to go for her old chair if Parliament does not take steps to replace the 'china' furniture in the new chamber.

Some legislators after Parliament acquired 300 set of furniture to refurbish their new chamber, complained bitterly about its quality and the fact that the contract was not given to a Ghanaian furniture manufacturer.

Despite those complaints, the MPs resumed sitting in the newly refurbished chamber with new seats and other sophisticated gadgets.

But on Wednesday, Peacefmonline.com chanced on a picture indicating that the new furniture which was acquired from China had already started breaking down.

In an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, Hon. Klenam confirmed the breaking down of the chairs and threatened to go for her old chair.

Asked if she will not be called out of order, she said “I am more comfortable on that one (old chair)… what has that got to do with the speaker being angry? I don't think he will.”

Comparing the new chairs to the old ones, she said the old ones are more comfortable but the new ones are not comfortable, they shake when sitting on it: “it is even difficult to see the one infront of you because of how high it is… you need to stretch your neck to see what is ahead of you”.

She remarked that she cannot afford to fall off her sit and so “I will go for my old chair”.

Disclosing whose chair got broken and how it got broken, she said: “It was Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey's chair. As soon as she sat on it, it broke and I had to help her up. We tried to get the Speaker's attention but we couldn't catch his eye so the bottom line was to get the media to report to them.” she added.
