Employers urged to give equal opportunities to disabled

Nkoranza (B/A), June 23, GNA- Mr. Joseph Kwaku Agyapong, out-going senior postmaster of Nkoranza post office has called on employers not to discriminate against the physically handicapped.

Mr. Agyapong, who is Nkoranza district chairman of the physically disabled association, was speaking at a send-off organized for him by the association at the weekend.

The senior postmaster, who is on transfer to Dormaa-Ahenkro, cited that in spite of his disability he had never relented in helping to promote the services of the Ghana Postal Company.

He deplored the practice by some employers to be selective when offering employment, and ignore the physically handicapped and appealed for a change in such attitude.

Mr. Agyapong advised parents to enrol their physically handicapped children in schools to enable them to occupy responsible positions in society, instead of being held as liabilities.

He commended the management of the Nkoranza district branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) for facilitating the work of the company. Mr. Douglas Turkson, Manager of Nkoranza branch of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) commended Mr. Agyapong for his hard work in promoting the bank's Western Union money transfer system, which he said had improved the performance of the bank.

Mr. Philip Adjei of the Nkoranza Post Office on behalf of the staff of the postal agencies at Busunya, Yefri, Nkwabeng and Nkoranza expressed gratitude to Mr. Agyapong for working in harmony with them and wished him good luck at his new station.

Mr. Stephen Ameyaw of Accra General Post Office was introduced as the new Postmaster for Nkoranza.
